Thermal Evaporation

Thermal Evaporation

Precision Optician’s range of coating technology ranges from state-of-the-art (such as our Ion-Beam Sputtering chamber) to more traditional approaches such as thermal evaporation. Thermal Evaporation (or Physical Vapor Deposition “PVD”) uses a heat source to evaporate a solid material into a gaseous form while in a vacuum environment. This is done in order to deposited a thin-film of that material onto the surface of a (often glass) substrate. Frequently used for metallic coatings, such as aluminum, chrome, silver, and others, PVD is a cost-effective and efficient option for many reflective coating needs. Precision Optical has over 50 years of experience with PVD coatings with a variety of materials for your application.
