Many anti-reflective requirements only require a single layer of dielectric material on the substrate surface.  Depending on the index of the substrate and the index of the deposited material, reflection is generally < 1.5%.  This is the oldest and simplest anti-reflective coating to deposit.  It is durable and carries less expense than multi-layer coatings.
