On Friday, May 24, McFadden Middle School AVID students received an in-depth presentation about physics, optics & photonics, and optics fabrication. Following the presentation, the 24 students and three faculty broke up into three groups and were given private tours of the facility by ELOEP staff. 
Students even got to “gown up,” and were escorted through our thin film coating laboratory where they witnessed coating materials being melted and deposited first hand!
Following the site tour, students had lunch in our formal lobby, and each received custom prisms to take home! They were very excited and attentive during the field trip, and one student even said, “I think I really want to study optics.”
