Right angle prisms are extremely versatile optical components, commonly used as individual prisms and components of optical assemblies. A beam of light entering the leg of a right angle prism will deviate by a nominal value of 90°, while precise rotation of the prism controls beam alignment. When light enters the hypotenuse of the prism, it is commonly called a porro prism. In this configuration, a light beam will undergo 180° deviation that is invariant in the azimuthal axis, while precise adjustment of the prism controls beam elevation.

Precision Optical is pleased to offer right angle prisms and porro prisms in a wide selection of sizes and glass types to meet the requirements of the most demanding applications. Tight surface quality, angles, dimensions, flatness, roof-line quality, and transmitted wavefront are readily available at competitive prices and delivery times. Custom facets, notches and other features are also available. Laser-line and broadband anti-reflection coatings may be applied to the entry faces of the prisms, and protected aluminum, silver or gold coatings are available on the reflecting faces.

Precision Optical is an industry-leading supplier of high quality porro prisms with sub arc second beam deviation and minimal transmitted wavefront distortion. We specialize in sharp roof edges with minimal roof chips that are ideal for high-powered laser applications. Our roof edges are inspected under magnification to verify 100% compliance. Because each application is unique, our experienced sales team is available to discuss tolerance options.
